Ausangate Trek!
Ausangate (6330m) is a spectacular glacier mountain located to the southeast of Cusco. It offers fascinating hiking routes around its base, as well as fabulous mountain scenery and animal life. Local countrymen forming small communities live at the bottom of the Glacier Mountains and preserve ancient traditions and legacies of the Incas. We are the only company who uses llamas instead of horses to make the trek more attractive.

Itinerary!
Day 1: Cusco - T'inki (3800m).
We pick you up from your hotel early and transfer you by bus to T'inki, a small countryside community, which is the starting point of the trek. At T'inki we are going to meet the muleteers and their llamas which will transport our staff during the expedition. On the route we'll pass picturesque small towns and we´ll visit the colorful traditional market at Urcos. We'll continue up to Catca and then to Ocangate. In these villages, we will see people wearing the traditional clothes of the country. Then, we continue on through communities until we reach T'inki. The bus trip will last 3 hours.
Day 2: T'inki– Upis (4700m).
On the second day, we leave T'inki and climb up the trail through spectacular green mountain pastures where Andean People live keeping their traditions and customs. The stunning mountain scenery will make for an extraordinary trek. You will see many llamas and alpacas which are used by people to transport their crops and belongings. Our trek will last 5 hours. At the campsite there is a volcanic hot spring.
Day 3: Upis – Laguna de Ausangate (4900m).
We leave Upis early and start hiking through the spiky ichu grass of the plains and climb up the trail towards the Arapa Pass (4900m). Afterwards, we continue the trek between Ausangate and Queullacocha observing attractive lagoons and spectacular mountain scenery with great fauna. After this, the trail descends to Lake Hatun Pucaccocha. Then we hike up to a second pass called Pucapunta Pass (5000m). Later, we have a short descent to the campsite next to the Ausangate lagoon.
Day 4: Laguna de Ausangate - Hampa (5200m)
A fascinating trekking day. We pass the highest point on our trek (Palomani Pass 5200). Which is also an important place to leave offerings to the Apus (mountain spirits). At this point you'll be rewarded by splendid views. Afterwards, we descend to the ancient farming area of Finaya where people live herding their llamas and alpacas. We will see native crops and visit a friendly family. Later, we will take a short walk to reach our campsite at Hampa community. Today, like the pervious day, we will trek for 8 hours, rest breaks included.
Day 5: Hampa – Phacchanta (4800m).
Today the trail climbs up to Hampa Pass which is the last pass of our trek before we descend through theancient Moraine and rocky which is also a habitat for mountain Chinchillas (Andean rabbits). We continue the trek amidst beautiful lagoons until we arrive at our campsite located in a colorful countryside community where people live in harmony with nature. At this place there are natural hot springs where you can deservedly relax your muscles after this challenging trek.
Day 6: Phacchanta – T'inki – Cusco (3800m).
- Transportation.- Private bus Cusco-T´inki (starting point of the trek) and T´inki-Cusco (transfer to your hotel).
- Guide.- English speaking guide (2 guides for groups over 8 people).
- Meals.- 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 5 dinners, 5 afternoon teas. Drinking water to refill your bottle during the trek
- Cook and cook assistant.
- Camping equipments.- We provide four people capacity tent for two persons, brand new four season tents, Therm-a-rest, dinning room tent, kitchen tent, toiled tent, seats, tables, tent for Guides and porters, kitchen gears, bag packs for the porters, warm clothes for the porters and life insurance for the porters. You don't have to be worry how are the helpers of your expedition.
- Horses.- For camping equipment, food and kitchen gears as well to carry your personal items (7kls per person) in duffel bags that Sunrise provide. Muleteers.
- Others.- First aid kit and emergency oxygen bottle.

Important!
We Recommend that you Bring:
- Sleeping bag (you can rent at SUNRISE office).
- Bottle of mineral water.
- Rain gear and/or plastic poncho (can be purchase in Cusco).
- Hiking boots.
- Warm jacket or fleece, t-shirts, shorts, long pants, sun hat and wool hat.
- Flashlight.
- Sun block.
- Insect repellent.
- Toilet paper and garbage bag.
- Small towel and bathing suit (hot springs optional).
- Camera, extra film and extra batteries.
- Snacks, chocolates, energy bars.
- Emergency money.
- Walking stick (optional).
Payment Details:
We require a non-refundable trek deposit of US$150 per person. The deposit can be sent by a WESTERN UNION or to our BANK ACCOUNT money transfer. This is the fastest and most secure form of payment in Peru. The money transfer should be in the name of SUNRISE EXPEDITIONS TOUR OPERATOR E.I.R.L. Once you arrive in Cusco you must pay the remaining balance in cash prior to beginning your tour. We accept both US Dollars and Peruvian Soles (local currency).

Important.
The night before your trek there will be a pre-trek talk (briefing) in our office or in your hotel at either 6 or 7pm (exact time will be confirmed on arrival to Cusco).
