Choquequirao Trek & Machupicchu!

In 2006 the Instituto Nacional de Cultura (INC) proposed a fee for the Choquekirao trek Quechua name meaning "Golden Cradle," although this is probably not its original Inca name, the mysterious Inca city of Choquequirao is located in the beautiful landscape of the Vilcabamba mountain range over the Apurimac River, According to historians, Choquequirao was the dwelling of the last 4 rebel Incas of Vilcabamba (Manco Inca , Sayri Tupac, Titu Yupanki and Tupac Amaru I); like Machupicchu , the Spanish were thought never to have discovered it; so will be a pleasure to show you this beautiful place with our profesional team. And then we continue the trek toward Machupicchu, passing through the recently discovered archaeological sites of Qoriwayrachina, Cota Coca and Corralpata. This will be expedition combining awesome mountain scenery, the visit of remote archaeological complexes, Andean flora and fauna

Itinerary!

Choquequirao PeruDay 1: Cusco - Cachora - Playa Rosalina (2750m).

At 4:00 am. We will pick up our customers from their hotels, then we will travel to Cachora (4 hours aprox. by our private van), once there (in Cachora), we will meet our muleteer and horses, there we will pack all our equipment in the horses, then we will begin to walk, the trail is flat until Chiquisca and then we will go uphill, passing through the high pass of Capuliyoc, from there, we will have a great view of the Apurimac Canyon. Finally we descend to playa Rosalina on the banks of the Apurimac River, the main tributary of the Amazon River. Campsite at 1,550 masl. Or 5,115 Ft.

Day 2: Playa Rosalina – Choquekirao (2100m).

Early in the morning, we will have breakfast, then, we will start walking uphill through a long and narrow trail, arriving Chokequirao around 4pm, then, We will visit the Archaeological site with our guide. The view of the canyon is spectacular, it is also possible to see Andean Condors soaring in the mountains. Campsite(3050 masl. Or 11,055 ft.)

Choquequirao trekDay 03: Choquequirao - Maizal

This day we will begin walking uphill for a while until be at 3,300 masl. Or 10,890 Ft, then we will descend until White River(1900 masl. Or 6,270 Ft.) On the way we will pass by Pinchiunuyoj archaeological site. There, we will observe different species of birds, different varieties of orquids, and local coca plantations (2,750 masl. Or 9075 Ft.), From Rio Blanco(White river), we will climb up to Maizal(3,000 masl. Or 9,900 Ft.) for about 3 hrs. Campsite.

Day 04: Maizal - Yanama

This morning, we will start walking uphill passing by the impressive Inca mines called Minas Victoria. Almost on the top, we can appreciate original paved Inca trails. We will pass over (4,150 masl. Or 13,695 Ft.) and finally descend to our campsite(3,800 masl. Or 12,540 Ft.).
Day 05: Yanama - Totora
After an early breakfast, we will start climbing slowly to our higher pass in all the trail (4,670 masl. Or 15,410 Ft.), again the view will be amazing from here, we will be surrounded by snowcapped mountains: The Sacsarayoj mountain and the Padreyoj mountain. Campsite at 3,630 masl. Or 11,979 Ft

ChoquequirawDay 06: Totora - Playa

On this day we will descend to the Totora river. As we go down the Natural life will be more interesting, with lots of hummingbirds, woodpeckers and many species of orchids and begonias. Campsite at 2,125masl. Or 7,012 Ft.

Day 07: Playa - Aguas caliente

This day, we will walk to our last uphill, until 2,810 masl. Or 9,273 Ft., to arrive there, we will take around 3 hours; from here we will have an excellent view of the lost Incas city of Machu Picchu. After a good rest, we will go down to the Hydroelectric plant on the Urubamba River, from here, depending on the time, we will walk and/or take the train to Aguas Calientes, Night in a Hotel.
Day 08: Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu fullday - Cusco
After breakfast we will take the bus to Machu Picchu, there, we will have a guided tour for all the Archaeological Site, then we will have free time to be by our own in Machupicchu, maybe to climb the Wayna Picchu. In the afternoon (At 4:00 pm.), we will take the train from Aguas Calientes back to Cusco arriving at 8 pm. Aprox.

What is included?

  • Transportation.- Tourist bus from Cusco to Cachora ( Capuliyoc) starting point of the trek and from.- Tourist train back packer class from Aguas Calientes to Cusco.- Bus up and down from Aguas Calientes to Machupicchu.
  • Camping equipments.- We provide four people capacity tent for two persons, brand new four season tents, Therm-a-rest, dinning room tent, kitchen tent, toiled tent, seats, tables, tent for Guides and porters, kitchen gears, bag packs for the porters, warm clothes for the porters and life insurance for the porters. You don't have to be worry how are the helpers of your expedition.
  • Acommodations.- 01 night baisic hotel accommodation in Aguas Calientes town
  • Entrace Fees.- To Machupicchu.
  • Meals.- 6 breakfast.- 6 hot lunches.- 6 hot dinners delicious meals prepared by professional chef food includes pancakes, omelets, soups, fresh fruit, avocado, pasta, chicken, fish, meat, rice, all rich in carbohydrates and suitable for trekking, hot drinks including coca leaf tea which is excellent for the altitude. Teatime everyday (tea, coffee, biscuits, popcorn), we offer vegetarian option, We provide available boil water each mourning for your water bottles.
  • Guide.- English speaking professional guides, 2 guides over 8 people.
  • Cook.- Professional chef and Chef assistants.

What is not included?

  • Sleeping bag.- can be rented in our office for US$ 30 for the entire trek (every sleeping bag is washed prior to each use).
  • Breakfast.- on the first morning. Some hotels offer early morning breakfast service. If not, we stop at Curahuasi for your breakfast and also you can buy some items for the trek,
  • Meals.- in Aguas Calientes town on the final day you must consider a bugged of US$ 15 to 20 in average restaurant.
  • Entrance.- to the thermal baths in Aguas Calientes (optional) US$ 3.
  • Tips.- for the staff.

We Recommend that you Bring:

  • Sleeping bag (you can rent at SUNRISE office).
  • Bottle of mineral water.
  • Rain gear and/or plastic poncho (can be purchase in Cusco).
  • Hiking boots.
  • Warm jacket or fleece, t-shirts, shorts, long pants, sun hat and wool hat.
  • Flashlight.
  • Sun block.
  • Insect repellent.
  • Toilet paper and garbage bag.
  • Small towel and bathing suit (hot springs optional).
  • Camera, extra film and extra batteries.
  • Snacks, chocolates, energy bars.
  • Emergency money.
  • Walking stick (optional)

Payment Details:

We require a non-refundable trek deposit of US$150 per person. The deposit can be sent by a WESTERN UNION or to our BANK ACCOUNT money transfer. This is the fastest and most secure form of payment in Peru. The money transfer should be in the name of SUNRISE EXPEDITIONS TOUR OPERATOR E.I.R.L. Once you arrive in Cusco you must pay the remaining balance in cash prior to beginning your tour. We accept both US Dollars and Peruvian Soles (local currency).

The night before your trek there will be a pre-trek talk (briefing) in our office or in your hotel at either 6 or 7pm (exact time will be confirmed on arrival to Cusco)
