Choquequirao Trek!

Spectacular 60 km trek through the Peruvian Andes. The trek leads us to the last refuge of the Incas from where they offered resistance against the conquerors. Choquekirao is located at 3100m. It's a huge archaeological complex still undergoing restoration. To get there we will trek through the deep Apurimac Canyon home while seeing a great variety of native flora and fauna.

Itinerary!

Choquequirao trekDay 1: Cusco - Cachora - Playa Rosalina (2750m).

Early in the morning we pick you up from your hotel in our private bus and drive west of Cusco passing by picturesque towns like: Izcuchaca, Limatambo, and Curahuasi. After 3 hours of traveling, we will arrive in Cachora Town. Here our horses and muleteers are waiting ready to start the trek. In the beginning we will go to the first pass Capuliyoc (2750m). Here we will be rewarded with beautiful mountain scenery and the Apurimac Canyon through which the Apurimac River (Speaker God River) flows. Then we will have a long descent to the campsite at playa Rosalina (1550m). Today we will walk for approximately 7n hours.

Day 2: Playa Rosalina – Choquekirao (2100m).

We leave our campsite at 6:00 am to cross the Apurimac River. We will climb switchback trails to SantaRosa (2100m). This climb will take approximately two hours. Afterwards we will climb slowly for another two hours until we reach our lunch spot at Marampata. From here we will walk another two hours to reach the Choquekirao Archaeological Complex. We will camp there enjoying some free time to explore the Inca terraces, buildings and to watch the sunset. We will camp at the outskirts of Choquekirao enjoying the sunset and perhaps we will see condors over flying the canyon.

Choquequirao PeruDay 3: Choquekirao - Playa Rosalina.

Today in the morning, we will explore the extraordinary Inca archaeological complex of Choquekirao, with our guide. We will be guided to the high parts (hanan), and the lower parts (urin), and some areas that are still covered in wild foliage. After the tour we will start walking back, down towards Santa Rosa, where we will have lunch. Then, we will continue on to Rosalina beach at 1550masl. After a two hour descent we will have time to take a refreshing dive into the waters of the Apurimac River; camp and dinner there.

 

Day 4: Playa Rosalina - Cachora - Cusco.

Today We Leave The Camp Early At About 6: 00 Am And Start The Two Or three hour climb to Chiquisca. Then we will make our way back to the Capuliyoc Pass, and have another great opportunity to enjoy the canyon. After lunch we will continue our return route to Cachora, where there will be a tourist bus waiting to take us to the town of Ollantaytambo. There we will sleep in a nice hotel.

  • Transportation.- Private bus Cusco- Cachora (starting point of the trek) and from Cachora to Cusco.
  • Guide.- English speaking guide (2 guides for groups over 8 people).
  • Meals.- 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 3 dinners, 3 afternoon teas. Drinking water to refill your bottle during the trek
  • Cook and cook assistant.
  • Entrance fees - To Choquekirao
  • Camping equipments.- We provide four people capacity tent for two persons, brand new four season tents, Therm-a-rest, dinning room tent, kitchen tent, toiled tent, seats, tables, tent for Guides and porters, kitchen gears, bag packs for the porters, warm clothes for the porters and life insurance for the porters. You don't have to be worry how are the helpers of your expedition.
  • Horses.- For camping equipment, food and kitchen gears as well to carry your personal items (7kls per person) in duffel bags that Sunrise provide. Muleteers.
  • Others.- First aid kit and emergency oxygen bottle.

Important!

We Recommend that you Bring:

  • Sleeping bag (you can rent at SUNRISE office).
  • Bottle of mineral water.
  • Rain gear and/or plastic poncho (can be purchase in Cusco).
  • Hiking boots.
  • Warm jacket or fleece, t-shirts, shorts, long pants, sun hat and wool hat.
  • Flashlight.
  • Sun block.
  • Insect repellent.
  • Toilet paper and garbage bag.
  • Small towel and bathing suit
  • Camera, extra film and extra batteries.
  • Snacks, chocolates, energy bars.
  • Emergency money.
  • Walking stick (optional).

Payment Details:

We require a non-refundable trek deposit of US$150 per person. The deposit can be sent by a WESTERN UNION or to our BANK ACCOUNT money transfer. This is the fastest and most secure form of payment in Peru. The money transfer should be in the name of SUNRISE EXPEDITIONS TOUR OPERATOR E.I.R.L. Once you arrive in Cusco you must pay the remaining balance in cash prior to beginning your tour. We accept both US Dollars and Peruvian Soles (local currency).

Important.

The night before your trek there will be a pre-trek talk (briefing) in our office or in your hotel at either 6 or 7pm (exact time will be confirmed on arrival to Cusco)
