A spectacular 60 km trek through the Peruvian Andes. The trek leads us to the last refuge of the Incas from where they offered resistance against the conquistadores. Choquekirao is located at 3100 meters above sea level. It's a large archaeological complex actually still under excavation and restoration; To get there we will trek through the deep Apurimac Canyon, home to a great variety of native flora and fauna.

Duration: 4 days, 3 nights

Itinerary:

Day 1.- Cusco – Cachora – Playa Rosalina.- Early in the morning we will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you in our private bus to Cachora, passing farm lands and picturesque towns such as: Izcuchaca, Limatambo, Curahuasi, etc. The bus journey will last for about 3:30 hours. The trail starts going up to the first pass named Capuliyoc pass (2750 meters) from where we will appreciate spectacular views of snow capped mountains, we then continue the descend into Playa Rosalina (1500 meters), near the Apurimac river. Suddenly you will feel that the temperatures have shifted from cold to warm. Today we will walk for 7 approximately hours.

Day 2.- Playa Rosalina – Choquekirao.- We leave the campsite and continue on the other site of the valley zigzagging up towards Santa Rosa. This rather stiff climb will take approximately two hours and it is important to leave early because the heat can make it a bit more difficult than normal. Afterwards, we will climb slowly for two hours until we reach our lunch spot at Maranpata. From here we will walk two more hours to reach the Choquekirao archaeological complex. We will camp at the outskirts of Choquekirao, enjoying the sunset and perhaps we will even see condors overflying the canyon.

Day 3.- Choqhekirao – Raqhaypata.- Today is dedicated to exploring this extraordinary Incan temple remains. Your guide will explain all about Choquekirao. After the tour you will have extra time to explore and walk along the various excavated ruins. After we finish the exploration, we will start to  descend to the Raqhaypata campsite. Along the route we will see a lot of wild flowers such as beautiful orchids, begonias, etc.

Day 4.- Raqhaypata  - Cocamasana.-  We leave the campsite early and continue the descend towards Playa Rosalina near the Apurimac river where lunch will be served by our cook and helpers. Before it you can take a shower and enjoy the fresh water of the river. Afterwards we keep our way up to the Cocamasana campsite observing the beauty of the canyon, the wild live, the flora and the fauna.

Day 5.- Cocamasana – Cachora – Cusco.-  After a 3 hour climb we reach the Capuliyoc pass. From here we walk towards Cachora. Here we will say goodbye to the trekking part and take the bus back towards Cusco. Along the route we will stop at the archaeological site at Saiwite, a nice chance to rest.
