Salkantay trek to Machupicchu!

This is an alternative and very attractive trek organized for trekkers who want to see the changing landscape. We will see ecosystems transform rapidly from the variance of environmental factors (sun, water, temperature, soil). This is a very special trip because at the end we will visit the lost city of the Incas – MACHUPICCHU. Price per person (2010): US$420 The prices INCLUDES the Inca Trail entrance fee (124 Peruvian Soles, about US$40), bus up and down from Aguas calisntes to Machu Picchu (US$14), tourist train from Aguas calientes to Cusco (US$41), and all local sales taxes (19%). There are no hidden charges in our trek prices.

Discounts:

US$20 discount on the above prices to students with a valid International Student Identity Card (ISIC) and to children under the age of 16 years old (scans of your ISIC card or child's passport must be provided at the time of paying the trek deposit in order to qualify for the discount). International Youth Travel Cards (IYTC) or other forms of student identity are not acceptable. We can also offer a US$10 per person discount for group bookings of 5 persons or more, provided just one person in the group is responsible for making the booking and sending the trek deposit. Unfortunately we do not offer travel agent discounts or commissions.

Itinerary!

Salkantay trail peruDay1: CUSCO-Mollepata-Soraypampa.

We will leave Cusco at approximatelly, 5:30 am to take a bus to MOLLEPATA (this is the beginning of the trek). It will takes about 3 hours, after which we will meet our horses. We then walk up for around 3 more hours to CRUZ PATA to have lunch a one hour rest break and then , we start walking again to SORAYPAMPA (3.850 M.A..S.L) .In this part of the trail, we are going to see, the first HUMANTAY snow capped mountain. After we will arrive at our first campsite at 5:30 pm where our porters will be waiting with some hot tea, and later, our dinner (the first campsite is the coldest).

Day2: Soraypampa-Chaullay.

After having a good breakfast and leaving at aprox 6:30 am, we will climb up for four hours to the firstpass of the SALKANTAY mountain, over 4.540 m.a.s.l., making it the highest point. We stop for around 25 minutes to take group pictures, because from here we will have great views of range of the mountains and we will find some stone hesps (Apachayta) around this pass. After this, we will trek downward for 4 hours through a nice trail to Chaullay, (which is lower than our first campsite at 2.900 m.a.s.l) where we have our tea time and dinner.

Salkantay trekDay 3: Chaullay-La Playa (Sawayaco) - Santa Teresa.

We leave from Chaullay early after finishing breakfast at aprox 7.00 am. we will pass through COLLCAPAMPA. In this part of the trek, we will walk on a narrow trail on the mountainside, cross some species of orchids, different kinds of plants, some cornfields, fruit fields and we will have the opportunity to see the most beautiful waterfall on the trail. This will take about 5 hours. Finally we will get to LA PLAYA place, and take a 45 minute truck ride to the town of SANTA TERESA (1.645m.s.a.l) .We will arrive there at about 1:00 pm to set up our tents. We can also go to the medicinal hot springs waters which are only 45 minutes from Santa Teresa.

Day 4: Santa Teresa-Hidroelectrica-Aguas Calientes.

We get up early in the morning, and after breakfast, begin walking for aprox. 3 hours to get theUrubamba river. After this spectacular experience we keep going for 2 more hours to a small village with a hydroelectric power station and a train station. Here, we can see many kinds of fruits, trees and plants. After lunch we will continue trekking until we arrive at Aguas Calientes where we spend the night in a hostal.

Salkantay peruDay 5: Aguas Calientes-Machu Picchu-Cusco.-

We have to get up very early in the morning at aprox.4:30 am to have breakfast and then we'll continue trek to the Archeological Site of Machu Picchu, Once at Machu Picchu, the tour guide will explain the meanings , importance and story of Machu Picchu while we tour the city. The tour will take about 2 hours. After the tour, you have the option to climb up to the Huayna Picchu Mountain, enjoying all of Machu Picchu. Afterwards, we will take a bus down to Aguas Calientes and we catch the train back to Cusco.

What is included?

  • Transportation.- Tourist bus from Cusco to Mollepata (to soraypampa for 4 days trek) starting point of the trek and from.- Tourist train back packer class from Aguas Calientes to Cusco.- Bus up and down from Aguas Calientes to Machupicchu.
  • Camping equipments.- We provide four people capacity tent for two persons, brand new four season tents, Therm-a-rest, dinning room tent, kitchen tent, toiled tent, seats, tables, tent for Guides and porters, kitchen gears, bag packs for the porters, warm clothes for the porters and life insurance for the porters. You don't have to be worry how are the helpers of your expedition.
  • Acommodations.- 01 night baisic hotel accommodation in Aguas Calientes town
  • Entrace Fees.- To Machupicchu.
  • Meals.- 4 breakfast.- 4 hot lunches.- 4 hot dinners delicious meals prepared by professional chef food includes pancakes, omelets, soups, fresh fruit, avocado, pasta, chicken, fish, meat, rice, all rich in carbohydrates and suitable for trekking, hot drinks including coca leaf tea which is excellent for the altitude. Teatime everyday (tea, coffee, biscuits, popcorn), we offer vegetarian option, We provide available boil water each mourning for your water bottles.
  • Guide.- English speaking professional guides, 2 guides over 8 people.
  • Cook.- Professional chef and Chef assistants.
  • Horses.- For camping equipment, food and kitchen gears as well to carry your personal items (7kls per person) in duffel bags that we provide. Muleteers.
  • Others.- First aid kit and emergency oxygen bottle.

What is not included?

  • Sleeping bag.- can be rented in our office for US$ 15 for the entire trek (every sleeping bag is washed prior to each use).
  • Breakfast.- on the first morning. Some hotels offer early morning breakfast service. If not, we stop at Calca for your breakfast and also you can buy some items for the trek,
  • Meals.- in Aguas Calientes town on the final day you must consider a bugged of US$ 15 to 20 in average restaurant.
  • Entrance.- to the thermal baths in Aguas Calientes (optional) US$ 3.
  • Tips.- for the staff.

Important!

Recomended Things To Take

  • Sleeping bag (you can rent at SUNRISE office).
  • Bottle of mineral water.
  • Rain gear and/or plastic poncho (can be purchase in Cusco).
  • Hiking boots.
  • Warm jacket or fleece, t-shirts, shorts, long pants, sun hat and wool hat.
  • Flashlight.
  • Sun block.
  • Insect repellent.
  • Toilet paper and garbage bag.
  • Small towel and bathing suit (hot springs optional).
  • Camera, extra film and extra batteries.
  • Snacks, chocolates, energy bars.
  • Emergency money.
  • Walking stick (optional).

Payment Details:

We require a non-refundable trek deposit of US$150 per person. The deposit can be sent by a WESTERN UNION or to our BANK ACCOUNT money transfer. This is the fastest and most secure form of payment in Peru. The money transfer should be in the name of SUNRISE EXPEDITIONS TOUR OPERATOR E.I.R.L. Once you arrive in Cusco you must pay the remaining balance in cash prior to beginning your tour. We accept both US Dollars and Peruvian Soles (local currency).

Important:

The night before your trek there will be a pre-trek talk (briefing) in our office or in your hotel at either 6 or 7pm (exact time will be confirmed on arrival to Cusco).
